The motherhood story that I choose was called "The Devil at My Door" Kadiatu:The Grieving Mother.
Her story was very upsetting and dissapointing that the healthcare system in under developed countries is very poor compared to the rest of the world.
I think that the illnesses and diseases most of the children from these poor countries are dying from are diseases that people in wealthier countries
have enough resources to cure these illnesses. To have a hospital be 2 hours away from a village is extremely heartbreaking and it shows the importance
of medical care being accesible to all and how 2 hours can mark a huge difference. The fact that 7 of Kadiatu children died at a young age or at birth due to
the lack of resources is something that should not occur and many countries should help countries like Sierra Leone with better medical care so mothers don't
need to live with grief of thinking they failed as a mother and being constantly shamed by their community who don't understand their children die of illness
not bad treatment or sacrifice to the devil.
Another story that really impacted me was called "My Punishment". Tetteh: The Prisoner
Her story was extremely upsetting too because she fell in love with a man who she thought would give her a good life for her and her children.
Unfortunately, her fairtytale ended up with her being abused living in one of the biggest slums in Sierra Leone, with no help from her family and being away from
her first son. She was constantly beat while preganant until she fought back and killed her husband. Without the right resources and help she was sent to jail without
trial and has been abused physically and mentally while pregnant in jail. Once her child was born, a new light joined her for a few years until her son Alie, was taken
away from her due to beimg abused by other inmates in jail. With the COVID pandemic, Tetteh has not recieved any visits from her son or her family. She still awaits trial and
is alone. This shows how horrible the justice system is towards women especially women who have been abused and mistreated. They recieve no aid or justice and left alone.
